Class Description: The term Aiki Bujutsu also called Aiki Jujutsu is not a style of Martial Arts. The term refers to a point in time when the effective war arts (Budo) and spiritual philosophy intertwined. Aiki Bujutsu is a high-level, intense, full and complete system. It is not a mixed martial art or a combination of modern martial arts. Our program is a non-competitive, effective, and efficient Martial Art which is based on the idea of self-preservation with a conscience.
Benefits of the Class: Due to the intense nature and commitment required to attend this class, students gain a deeper understanding of the philosophies of Budo.

Aikido of Sandpoint will be slowly be changing its face and its model for Adult Aikido.
Since 1998 Sensei Reitan has built and operated 8 Aiki Dojos, The original dojo was named Takayama Dojo ( After “Takayama Ukan” a 15 century Christian Samurai)
Takayama Dojo was located in Bend Oregon and was built from the ground up by its students it was operated as a Private dojo which means it was not open to the public as a walk in, if a student wished to participate they had to go through an interview process in order to join the group. The Takayama dojo model was more in line with early traditional Japanese dojo’s or training facilities.
Takayama dojo was built on private property and was surrounded by gardens, waterfalls and nature. As in tradition the students did the majority of the up keep and care of the dojo and the surrounding property.
What this did was to create a very high level of student integrity, maturity and learning potential. This also fostered a very strong service orientated community.
What we typically see in the modern commercial dojo is the lack of all which is listed above. Many modern martial art dojos create an egotistical student expecting to be served and pampered and promoted through the ranks in exchange for their investment of a small monthly fee which typically does not cover the dojo rent nor its operational costs.
This summer Takayama Dojo will begin the process of returning its structure and dojo community back to a Private dojo.
This process will begin in our current commercial dojo in downtown Sandpoint by offering a less intense and less costly program for our new student enrollment. Once students reach a specified level and have proven to be exceptional students they will have the opportunity to move into the more comprehensive program which will be closed to the general populous.
Our more advanced program involves the study of Aikido and the early arts which Aikido blossomed from, this study includes, Japanese Jujutsu, Ken Jutsu, Kendo, Iaido, Meditation and Ki building Arts.
This program do to it’s all encompassing nature will be available only to students committed to the Aiki practice as well as their own personal growth.
Our future plans are to begin building a new private dojo on private land this summer, and finish sometime next summer.. Our Private dojo will be built by its current and new students and will be in the tradition of a Japanese Mountain Dojo ( Kin No Yama Dojo).
If you wish to be part of either of these training programs please come in and see us at Aikido of Sandpoint 525 Oak St. Sandpoint Idaho.
New students wishing to participle in the private program at Kin No Yama Dojo must go through an interview process. New students wishing to participate in the private dojo will be required to cover dues for the first 3 months. Students will also be required to have their own Keiko Gi, Bokken, Jo, Hanbo and Tanto. These items are all inexpensive and available new and used at our current commercial dojo.
